SPACE 8

WINE PAVILION, Mas Rodó

AA VISITING SCHOOL BARCELONA

Design Phase

The first day, after getting familiar with the site, its conditions and also the requirements, we started sketching and making models. After that, it was time to make 1:10 paper models. At the end, we closed the day with a public presentation.

The Project

Our assignment was creating a space to experience wine tasting, which is the eighth step of wine making cycle. We used tree principle parameters, the wind, the light and the view we had of the vineyards, to create a space on a wooden structure which was inspired by Japanese architecture. Corian was used as the main material.

The Pattern

We had to create a system that limits the waste of material (Corian) and is easy to construct, because of the limited time we had for installation. Therefore, we created a pattern by dividing a parallelogram in two, and creating two types of pieces; introverted (A) and extroverted (B). We combined them together, and created different kinds of openings (AA / BB / AB). We used the introverted pieces mostly on the south facade to protect the pavilion from direct sunlight, the extroverted pieces on the north and east facades where the main view is, and a combination of both on the west facade to create air ventilation.
